Places to stay
Kitts Campsite
Kitts Campsite is situated on the glorious Mid-Sussex countryside. And it is glorious. Undulating and very green (although we just missed the bluebell display).
The site is about 150 yards off a country lane up a bumpy track. Be careful not to drive past, as the sign can be missed.
When we arrived, it is obvious that this is the place for us. The onsite greeting party was Davy, who was lovely. There is plenty of distance between the pitches and each pitch comes with its own firepit. The site is split into several fields, divided by trees and the whole site has trees around it. In short, we were 20 minutes from home, but could have been anywhere in the country. The site is really quiet with the only noise being the birds and the distant sound of the steam trains at the Bluebell Railway.
The toilet/shower/washing up block is very clean and solar powered. Everything worked fine for me.
On Saturday night a food van served delicious Thai green curry in the site’s tent and on Sunday morning the local mobile coffee seller came with their converted horse box to serve delicious hot drinks and sell bread/pastries.
The Bluebell Railway is a short walk away. We didn’t visit this time, opting for the walk through the woods to the 360 Brewery for a few afternoon beers. This is an excellent tap room at the brewery site with indoor and outdoor seating, a range of lovely beers (the Raspberry Sour is fantastic) and a pizza wagon (the pizzas looked amazing).
On Saturday morning we went to Wakehurst Place to run the parkrun. It is about 20 minutes away. On the way back, I would highly recommend stopping at the bakery in Ardingly. It served the best bread and pastries I have had in this country for ages.
This will become a regular place to visit. Loved it.
And possibly the best thing about the campsite is that there is little or no mobile signal, so you get a weekend free from news, text messages, Whatsapp groups and so on.
